Last week we watched an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives that featured Beach Pub in Virginia Beach.  We decided to check it out while we were in the area yesterday.

We sat at the bar.  The bartender, Beth, did a great job.  She was friendly and checked on us often enough without being overbearing.

We started with Oysters Rockefeller, one of the dishes featured on the show.  I am not a fan of cooked spinach so I removed most of the pile of it and really enjoyed the luscious oyster underneath.  The oysters were huge and the dish was plenty for us to share.  My only complaint would be that I found chunks of shell in two out of the three oysters that I ate.

Chris ordered the Seafood Platter with shrimp, scallops, oysters, a crab cake, flounder, and Clams Barco (clams broiled with garlic and bacon).  He ordered a house salad and collard greens for his sides.  The broiled seafood was nicely cooked.  The crab cake was flavorful and quite spicy.  The dish was enough to take some home to enjoy later.  Unfortunately, the greens were a bit overcooked, leaving them without the toothsome texture that Chris enjoys.

I ordered Broiled Flounder, topped with crab dip and cheddar.  Cheese on fish is not common, but I was willing to give it a shot.  The cheese was a pleasant addition to the flounder, accentuating the creaminess of the fish.  I was a little thrown that the skin which had been left on the fish was not crispy, but otherwise, I enjoyed the dish.

The food was nothing exceptional, but it was good.  The service and friendly patrons made the meal.

Cost for a beer, an Irish coffee, an appetizer, and two entrees $73.13.
