After arriving in Pensacola, we were on our way to Hardee’s to grab a quick dinner when we saw a sign for Greer’s Cash Saver that made me think of Greek food. When I mentioned it, Chris thought it was a great idea. We found Founaris Brothers nearby.
We checked the menu on our phone and called our order in from the parking lot. They said it would be about 30 minutes, so we ran to the store while we waited. When we returned, we pulled into one of the curbside pickup spots and called to let them know we were there. A few minutes later, a friendly server appeared at our car window, with her mask on, to take our payment. Another friendly server returned with our food shortly after that.
As gyros are always best when fresh, we decided to eat in their parking lot. We moved from the curbside spot to another parking space farther away from the restaurant. From there, we had a view of palm trees lit up with green lights. It was as romantic a setting for our Valentine’s dinner as we were going to find.
I ordered a gyro sandwich, and Chris picked a gyro plate. We ordered a side of feta to share. The only difference between the sandwich and the platter was the presentation. The sandwich was a traditional gyro, wrapped in a pita. The plate was a deconstructed gyro, with everything in the container but served with grilled pita quarters instead of wrapped.
The tender, delicious pieces of beef and lamb had been broiled beautifully. There were plenty of vegetables on both the sandwich and the plate. We always order extra feta because we love the added salty pop of flavor. I usually like to get extra tzatziki but forgot to when we placed our order. I did not need it as there was the right amount on the gyro.
As a special Valentine’s treat, we also ordered a piece of Baklava Cheesecake to share for dessert. It was exactly what the name implied, a luscious cheesecake topped with layers of phyllo, honey, almonds, and walnuts. My tastebuds said we should have ordered two pieces, but my full tummy was content with sharing the one.
In our endless search for the perfect gyro, Founaris Brothers ranks in our top five. Cost for a gyro plate, a gyro sandwich, a side of feta, and a dessert $29.64.
That Baklava Cheesecake looks yummy.
It was a great combination of the two desserts.
Your Gyro/Gyro plate looks fantastic, and the Baklava Cheesecake? Oh my goodness does that look amazing!!! I’m with you on the extra tzatziki sauce! We have a couple of local spots that make delicious Gyros with perfectly spiced meat. One does a good plain cheesecake; I might have to hint about the baklava cheesecake!
You should. It was fantastic.
Gyros are always a good meal and these look especially delicious.
We are on a constant hunt for great gyros. This one is one of our top finds.
Wow fantastic review! Sounds like am amazing place for the whole family! Yum!
If the rest of the food is as good as the gyros were, I would have to agree with you.
Baklava Cheesecake???? OMG I am totally jealous!! Two of my fave desserts (one of which I can no longer have) combined into one!! I love Greek food to begin with, so ewither of your meals sounded good!
The cheesecake was fantastic. A great combination of two great desserts.
I’ve never had a gyros… do they have vegetarian ones? Looks like a romantic view with the green palm trees. 😄
I have no idea how they would make a vegetarian gyro, but I would imagine someone could figure it out.
Oh man, baklava + cheesecake – that looks seriously amazing!
It was fantastic!
It’s midnight – I’m still off my schedule after flying to Germany – I’m starving – In a hotel – nothing to eat – and up pops this post with gyros (one of my favorite things), and BAKLAVA CHEESECAKE??!!!!!! You have got to be kidding me. That sounds completely and ridiculously Off. The. Hook.
I know what I’ll be dreaming of tonight!
Oh no! I didn’t intend to give you the hungry horrors. LOL
I love gyros – now I’m hungry!
We are always on a quest to find great gyros. Sometimes it’s a miss, but when we find a great one it’s magic.
