After spending most of the day exploring Petrified Forest National Park, we were hungry. We looked online for prospective places to get lunch and found a barbecue place about 30 miles away. We made the drive to Concho, Arizona, to Ray’s BBQ Shack.

We looked at the menu in the parking lot and called in our order. We went down the road for gas, and once we returned, our order was ready for pickup. The restaurant was small but well suited for the size of the community.

There was a full bar at one end of the restaurant. The staff was friendly and more than happy to provide us with to-go silverware.
Chris ordered the ¼ pound Tri-Tip Platter with collard greens and cornbread. The beef had a lovely smoky flavor, and the tasty sauce added a nice luxuriousness. The collards were delicious as well. The cornbread was sweeter than Chris likes, but I enjoyed the flavor and the moist texture.

I had the Brisket sandwich with potato salad. The beautifully cooked meat had a hint of spice in the sauce, but not enough to overshadow the brisket’s flavor. I enjoyed the potato salad. I was surprised to find olives in the salad. There also seemed to be bits of bacon in it as well. It was a refreshing take on potato salad that I had never seen before but very much enjoyed.

If we return to the Concho area, we will stop at Ray’s again.

Cost for a sandwich and a platter $23.90.
