After a leisurely wake-up when we wake-up kind of morning, we ventured out to Galley Grill. The small eatery on Summerland Key was not busy when we arrived for a late breakfast. We chose a table on the patio and ordered coffee from our friendly, efficient server while we looked over the menu.
I was happy to find they had Shrimp & Grits, one of my favorites. Chris ordered the Greek Omelet with a side of hollandaise sauce, and I couldn’t resist the Cranberry Mango Mimosa, again two of my favorite flavors.
The mimosa was delicious with a pleasant contrast of sweet and sour tastes. I also liked the fact that they served the cocktail in a wine glass instead of a tiny champagne flute.
We didn’t wait long before our food came out. The Greek omelet, packed with spinach, Kalamata olives, onions, tomatoes, and feta cheese, was nicely cooked and delicious. The hollandaise Chris added gave the omelet just enough extra zing to make it spectacular. The accompanying grits were creamy and buttery, and the rye toast was splendid.
My shrimp & grits was a winner as well, with thick, rich, creamy grits and perfectly cooked, barely pink, tender, and sweet grilled shrimp. The bacon added a lovely smoky flavor to the dish, and the fresh green onions brought a beautiful brightness as a foil to the heavy, rich ingredients.
The portions were large, so we ended up taking some home with us for later. Good service with great food is a fabulous combination and will always bring us back for more.
Cost for two cups of coffee, a mimosa, and two entrees with a side of sauce $45.73.
Love shrimp and grits and love a good Greek omelet — YUM!!! Both of your breakfasts look fantastic! I’m so glad you’ve been having good restaurant experiences lately. 🙂
Restaurants seem to have been very hit or miss for us lately. It was good to find a few great ones on our trip.
The shrimp and grits just made me drool! Hard to find good grits here in Utah let alone shrimp and grits.
They are pretty easy to come by in the South. They have been one of my favorites since I first discovered them.
I absolutely love shrimp and grits! Not an easy thing since its pretty difficult to find authentic Southern restaurants in Canada! LOL
No, I can’t imagine there are a lot of good places for shrimp & grits in Canada.
OK, now I’m certifiably hungry! It all looks great. At those prices, I’d vote for splitting a meal; do you consider $45+ for 2 breakfasts reasonable? I’m in sticker shock…
That $45 included a cocktail. We also had enough food to take half home for another meal, basically cutting that $45 in half. Eating out is one of our guilty pleasures when we travel and we don’t mind spending the money. We actually budget for it. I include what we spend to help readers have a realistic expectation of the experience.
I’m a big fan of omelets that are filled to the max. Looks like I would love this place!
It was my favorite breakfast spot on the trip.
This looks so delicious! I would love to visit and try it!
I would highly recommend it if you are in the Keys.
You’ve had a string of better service at your restaurants of choice. That’s good!
We did have a long run of really bad service, so it was a treat to finally find some good.
That omelet looks amazing!!
It was so good.
