While in Cape Canaveral, we met our friends Phil and Jenn for lunch at Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar. As we walked toward the entrance, I was intrigued by a sign advertising shark kabobs.
We arrived before our friends and selected a table on the deck. The breeze off the water was brisk, but the warm sunshine made it pleasant. We had a lovely view of the water with a cruise ship right next to the deck. I enjoyed watching the pelicans drift lazily on the wind.
I ordered a Lazy Pelican, a delicious lemonade cocktail with blueberry vodka, pineapple rum, and cranberry juice. It was refreshing and delicious. After Jenn arrived, she ordered a cocktail as well. I found it strange that the server suddenly requested a credit card to secure the tab for our table. Securing a tab with a card is not unusual in a bar, but I have never had to do so while dining at a table. I also found it odd that she didn’t ask for the card when Chris and I ordered our drinks but instead waited until Jenn joined us.
Chris and I started with Bacon Wrapped Scallops. The deep-water scallops, seasoned with lemon pepper, wrapped in crunchy bacon, were divine. The beautifully cooked scallops came with a spicy and delicious remoulade.
For his main course, Chris picked Fish Tacos with tuna. Each taco had two large pieces of seared tuna with a tropical slaw and lime crema. A dish of pico de gallo was on the plate, as well as a juicy lime. The tacos were fantastic.
As I said before, I was intrigued by the shark kabobs. But, having never eaten shark before, I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to the entrée. Then, I noticed an option to add a kabob to any entrée, so I ordered Tahitian Tuna Poke and added a shark kabob. The poke was terrific, with seared sushi-grade tuna, served over coconut sticky rice and topped with a savory sauce and green onions.
We had been watching several boat-tailed grackles hopping around the area, looking for treats. Signs on the deck requested that customers refrain from feeding the birds, but that didn’t stop them from stealing food from the empty tables. One of the birds was brazen enough to steal some rice right off my plate while I took pictures of all the food. It was entertaining to watch them looking for a way back onto our table.
I was happy that I ordered the shark kabob. Tender and grilled perfectly, the shark was spectacular. I loved that the skewer was removed before serving the dish, making it that much easier to eat. The shark kabobs are not always available, so it was a treat that I had the chance to taste them.
I would happily return to Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar again for the fantastic food.
Cost for a cocktail, two beers, an appetizer, two entrees, and a kabob $68.39.
Those scallops made my mouth water!
They were so delicious and I loved the crunch from the bacon.
Everything looks really good! I’m eyeing the fish tacos the way that grackle is eyeing you. 😉
The grackles were like having a floor show during lunch.
That all looks delicious. I love the bird eyeing it!
He not only eyed our food but actually jumped onto our table to steal some of it.
So interesting…I have not had shark before! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
If you ever have the opportunity, shark is delicious.
Those bacon wrapped scallops! Looks so good! And how does shark taste like? Im guessing like tuna?
Not at all like tuna. It is a meatier texture, mild and delicious.
I love scallops and these look amazing!
They were yummy.
OMG, those scallops! Everything looks so fresh and I’m pleased to hear that it all tasted amazing! Apparently the bird was, too.
The food was great but the bird stole the show.
YUM! Now this is my kind of food! WOW! Looks so great!
You can’t beat eating seafood on the water.
