One of the downsides of our winter explorations is that our weekend is Sunday/Monday and very often many places are not open on Mondays in the off-season.  This was the case this past weekend.  The spot I originally thought about for breakfast is not open on Monday this time of the year.  When I realized this, I did a quick search for an alternate place to eat.  Hawksbill Diner had good ratings but no website.  Without knowing more about them I was a little hesitant, but willing to give them a shot.  I am so glad we did.

As we entered the restaurant Chris noticed the sign on the door stating that they did not accept credit cards.  There was a convenience store close by, so we used the ATM there before going in.  We picked a table in the back room of the small restaurant.  It was President’s Day and the place was busy, with only one server for the entire restaurant.  We watched as she buzzed around efficiently and with purpose, with no sign of panic, making sure to interact with each customer.

Chris ordered chicken fried steak and I had biscuits & gravy.  Both dishes were tasty, nothing extraordinary, but well done.  The coffee was delicious and, despite the crowd, our mugs were never empty.  Our server (unfortunately I did not catch her name) even anticipated my need for more cream, bringing it with her when she refilled our coffee.  The amazing service absolutely made our visit.

Cost for two cups of coffee and two entrees $17.71.
