Last week we went to Hungry Harry’s BBQ in Lutz, Florida. It was our day off, and we were feeling lazy. We didn’t want to make an effort to cook, but also didn’t know what we wanted to eat. A quick Google search for ‘food near us’ brought up Hungry Harry’s. We hadn’t had barbecue in a while, so we knew that was what we wanted.

We missed the first entrance to the restaurant, pulling into a parking lot beside the building. As we walked toward the restaurant, we could see the fire burning for the smoker. We walked around the building and entered a small, busy dining room. We took a menu outside to a picnic table.

We had a few questions, so we entered a second dining room across from the first. A friendly server answered our questions expertly and sent us back to the first dining room to place the order. We waited at the picnic table outside and were nicely surprised that our food was ready in under ten minutes.

We returned home, where we spread blankets and had a picnic on the floor. We had both decided to order the Combination Platter. It has two types of meat of your choice, two sides, and either garlic bread or a cornbread muffin. We both picked brisket and baby back ribs with mild sauce and macaroni & cheese. I chose potato salad and a cornbread muffin, and Chris went with collards and garlic bread.

Both the brisket and the ribs were spectacular, with just the right amount of lovely smoke flavor. The ribs had some chew to them but easily pulled away from the bone. The brisket was also a perfect texture.

While nothing special, the macaroni & cheese was tasty. The potato salad was creamy and delicious, and Chris enjoyed the nicely cooked collards. The garlic bread was good, but the cornbread muffin was fantastic. I couldn’t believe how moist it was.

With the generous amount of food, we saved the brisket to enjoy later. While we are in the area, Hungry Harry’s will be our barbecue spot.

Cost for two platters $32.08.
