We recently found ourselves in the small town of New Market, VA.  We stopped at Kathy’s Home Cooking Cafe for lunch.  It is a small café on the main street through New Market.  When we arrived there were two people in line in front of us.  A server, obviously very busy, told us to seat ourselves from across the room.  We saw two available tables and figured we would let the men in front of us pick their table and then we would take the other one.  Apparently, they were not together as they each took a table.  When the server realized what happened, she quickly cleaned a table in the back for us.

The restaurant was patriotically decorated with red, white, and blue bunting in the windows and red, white, and blue flowers with small American flags on the tables.  I do not know if that is their usual decor or if it was because we were there two days after Flag Day.

Chris had the 2-piece fish basket.  The fried cod, served with fries and coleslaw, was nicely cooked, tender inside with a nice crunch from the breading.  For some reason, I was in a mood for hot dogs so I ordered two chili cheese dogs.  The hot dogs, served with potato chips,  were on the mark and perfectly satisfied my craving.

The food, while nothing particularly special, was good, as was the service.  When we paid the check, the server gave Chris a piece of chocolate cake for Father’s Day.  I thought that was a lovely touch.

Cost for a soda, a lemonade, two hot dogs, a fish basket and a side salad, with tip $23.98.
