On our last day at Claytor Lake, we went to Omelet Shoppe for breakfast.  The restaurant is just a few minutes from the lake.  I didn’t realize when I picked it that it was in a truck stop.  I did not have high hopes for the place when we walked in, but we were already there so why not give it a chance.  Wow, were we surprised!

The servers were friendly, greeting us immediately.  We sat at the counter and ordered coffee.  After looking over the menu, we ordered a steak & cheese omelet and a mushroom & swiss omelet, adding bacon.  The omelets, packed full, were delicious.  Chris’s omelet was missing the bacon, but our server rectified this as soon as we brought it to her attention.

The hash browns were scrumptious, crispy on the outside and creamy inside.  The biscuit was soft and tasty as well.  My only disappointment was that they do not offer real butter.

To make an already good breakfast even better, it just so happened that we were there on a Tuesday when they offer half-price omelets.

Cost for two cups of coffee and two omelets (with the tip) $19.
