We used our camp stove for our first two camping trips.  After a disastrous episode with wind on our second campout, resulting in us losing most of our dinner, we started just cooking over an open fire.  One of the issues with doing so is managing the fire.  It gets very hot with almost no temperature control.  Chris used our tactical shovel to rearrange the logs as needed, but this proved somewhat ineffective.

In the pursuit of a better way of managing the fire, I purchased a set 26″ long Epica Fireplace Log Grabber Tongs and a pair of BlueFire Pro Heat Resistant Gloves.  The tongs were awkward and unwieldy.  They did not do a good job of picking up logs and fell apart after only using them a few times.  The gloves did not fit well.  Not only were they not very effective but they actually melted.

For Christmas, our son gave us a pair of Ozeron Heat Resistant BBQ Gloves.  The flame-retardant, heat-resistant leather gloves are 16 inches long, protecting not only the hands but the forearms as well.  Inside the gloves have a soft, thick cotton lining with air-isolated aluminum foil that isolates the hot air from the interior of the gloves.  The gloves, rated for 932-degrees for up to 16 seconds, are perfect for moving burning logs around, adjusting the hot grate, and moving a very hot cast iron dutch oven.

We have used these puncture and cut-resistant durable gloves for over a year now and couldn’t be happier with them.

Cost on Amazon as of this writing $15.98.

Update 4/2/21:  We had an unfortunate incident where someone accidentally tossed one of our gloves into the fire with a stack of wood.  We reordered the same gloves on Amazon, but they were not close to the same quality as the first pair.  We ended up returning them and the search is on for something comparable.
