We first discovered Peaks View Park Disc Golf Course seven years ago.  We were in Lynchburg to tour Liberty University as part of Nick’s college search.  We decided to check out the disc golf courses while we were there.  After playing the course at Liberty (a very uphill course) we ventured across town as daylight dwindled to play at Peaks View Park.  We enjoyed the course so much that we went back and played again the next day.

With our youngest, Kevin, attending Lynchburg College for a year, we were able to play Peaks View multiple times throughout the year but have not been back in the last three years.  Last weekend our camping adventure put us near Lynchburg, so we stopped to play the course again and were very nicely surprised by the changes.  While the course has always been fun, it is now a championship course.  They have added a second set of Prodigy baskets, essentially creating two courses.

The first six holes play through the field, with some undulation and trees to avoid.  Bathroom facilities are available both in the parking lot and behind the third basket.

After the sixth hole, the course ducks into the woods for the next ten.  There are several very short holes with great ace potential.  The seventh hole is the first of these.  While being close enough to reach from the tee pad, it certainly is not an easy ace, as the basket is off to the left, with a row of trees hiding the basket.

The eighth hole is a challenging, very vertical, uphill shot.  The course is a good workout with a lot of hiking up and down hills.  One of my favorite holes is the ninth.  At only 120 feet, I almost hit the basket on my drive, only missing it by inches.

With a shot too far left on the 11th hole, you can easily roll down the steep hill and end up in the water.  The new basket on the 16th hole plays across the water, creating a challenging decision, to shoot across the water or lay it up on the bank.  The last two holes are back out in the open with the 18th basket over the hill, not visible from the tee.

We played both layouts, rolling through the shorter course in under an hour and a half.  The second took a bit longer, just under two hours, but a lot of that time was me stopping to take a lot of pictures.  Chris finished the first course at three-under, while I was at eight-over and then on the second round, he scored a one-over while I had a dismal 21.  Despite my score, I had a lot of fun.
