After we set up camp at the foot of Devil’s Tower, we were starving. The restaurants in the immediate area were all closed, and we wanted something more than convenience store food. With a Google search, we found a deli in the nearby town of Hulett, Wyoming. When we arrived at the destination, we found it was closed despite what the internet indicated.
We noticed Red Rock Cafe around the corner. Their menu looked promising, so we went in. There were several tables inside, a few with customers. We aren’t ready for dining in yet, so ordered our food to go. We explored the adorable western-style town while waiting and found the most fantastic shop/museum across the street.
Chris ordered the Black & Bleu Burger with tater tots. The burger was nicely cooked and had the perfect amount of bleu cheese to give it that zesty saltiness.
I had the Prime Rib Melt with extra sauce. My body was craving greens, so I ordered a salad as my side. The meat was tender, and the sandwich delicious. The salad was large and full of vegetables. It was just what I needed.
We shared an order of beautifully rolled egg rolls with a healthy portion of filling. We topped them with hot sauce and thoroughly enjoyed the tasty bites.
Excited that lemon meringue pie was on the menu, I had to get a piece to enjoy later. Unfortunately, the lemon curd was lacking a bit of flavor. It was a good pie but lacked the intense lemon flavor I like.
There was enough food to fill us up and have more left for a nice snack later. While we did get a few odd looks from some of the customers because we were wearing masks, the cashier was very friendly and made sure we had utensils and napkins to enjoy our meal on the go.
Cost for an appetizer, two sandwiches, and a dessert $47.25.
Glad you are wearing masks. good role-modeling. The food sounds expensive.
The food sounds delicious and now… I am hungry!
Glad you were wearing your masks 🙂
That melt looks really good! Now I want some egg rolls. 😹
Thank you for wearing your masks. As someone in a high-risk group, I applaud your concern for those around you. ❤️
Keep wearing those masks! The food looks good. Making me hungry!
Eating in restaurants is one of the things we miss most from the pre-pandemic days. We’ll keep wearing our masks and settle for take out until we feel safe again.
Yum! Looks delicious! Thanks for sharing!
The food was really good.
It all looks so yummy. What started out as unfortunate, with everything closed, turned out to be a blessing in disguise!
Yes, it did!
Food sounds amazing! I’d be wearing my mask too!
We always do. It’s funny how different people’s attitudes are about it from place to place. We’ve noticed that people in small towns do not seem to feel the need for masks as much.
Mmmm, Prime Rib melt!
Oh, yes!
The food looks delicious.
Some of the best food comes out of small restaurants in small towns.
Love egg rolls, and those looked delicious! Its strange that you are getting sideways looks for wearing masks… When the borders open up again, I am worried the same will happen to us. We will wear them everywhere!
It seems that a lot of people in small towns don’t feel the need for masks. It just occurred to me that maybe it wasn’t the masks they were looking at as much as they knew we were strangers.
Oh my a prime rib melt – tater tots and so much more. I would love this place.
The sandwich was delicious!
Sounds like you found the right place for your evening meal!
It was really good food. The best part was the great view we had of Devil’s Tower while we ate back at our tent.
