One beautiful, sunny afternoon, Jenn and I visited the upstairs deck of Ryan’s Pizza and Pub. The view of the water was spectacular. The bartender was friendly and attentive. As we enjoyed our happy hour beers, we decided we would like to come back for dinner. After talking to the bartender, we learned they do not take reservations, but instead, seating is first-come, first-served.
We went home and grabbed the family to return and put our name on the list. The wait was not long, about 20 minutes, but plenty was going on in the area to occupy the kids for that time. After receiving a text indicating our table was ready, we went inside and sat at a table next to the bar. Chris and I were still a little gun-shy about indoor seating, but our table was off to itself and away from other customers.
It was a busy night for the popular restaurant, and our server seemed a bit frazzled, but overall, she was efficient, and most of the food came out correctly. We decided to keep it simple this time. I ordered a house salad and Garlic Parmesan Wings. I debated whether I should get ten wings or twenty. When the wings came out, I was happy I had settled on the ten-piece order. The large, meaty wings were fantastic and plenty enough for a meal.
Chris ordered a Ryan’s Special Pizza. I questioned ordering a whole pizza when they offered it by the slice, but Chris was thinking about taking what he didn’t eat home for later. When the pizza arrived, I couldn’t help but laugh. It was a giant, 18-inch pizza. The delicious pizza was packed full of pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, beef, onions, mushrooms, black olives, and banana peppers. On the menu, the Ryan’s Special comes with green peppers. The server seemed to have an issue with our request to replace the green peppers with banana peppers, but in the end, we were able to get the pizza the way we wanted it.
After enjoying a great meal, we asked for a box for the remaining pizza. The server seemed offended by our request, stating that she knew how to do her job. Unfortunately, when we opened the box, the pizza looked like the server had thrown it into the box.
Despite the issues we experienced with service, we would return to Ryan’s Pizza and Pub for the excellent food and spectacular view.
Cost for two beers, a cocktail, a house salad, an order of wings, and a pizza $63.49.
Those wings look delicious and crispy!
They were excellent.
The pizza looks fabulous — I never thought of adding banana peppers, although I love them in sandwiches.
We just can’t do the green peppers, but the bananas add a lovely flavor.
I’m the same with green peppers. I like them, but they don’t like me. 🙁
I add banana peppers to almost everything including pizza. Glad you enjoyed your food. Hope you have a better server experience next time. These are stressful times for everyone.
Being in the industry, I will normally take stress into account when I judge service. Sometimes the service is just bad. Great service seems to be lacking as a general rule these days. Too many servers see the job as a stepping stone and not as a craft.
It’s such a bummer when servers have bad attitudes. It sounds like overall it’s still a good place to visit.
Some people just don’t belong in the service industry. She wasn’t horrible, but the experience could have been so much better. At least the food was great.
THAT looks so good! I’m hungry! 🙂
I couldn’t help but laugh when the massive pizza showed up.
Good help is hard to find 🙃
And has been for a while. I get so annoyed when I work with people who don’t realize the reason we have a job is the customer.
Yum, pizza is my favorite!
You should definitely check it out if you are in the area.
I bet he had leftovers! Holy pizza!
That’s an understatement. But it was so good the leftovers didn’t last long.
The wings looks delicious. Glad you had a great time at Ryan’s Pizza.
All of the food was great.
Ohhhh…. that Pizza looks fabulous!! Too bad the service wasn’t better!
I might be super picky about service, but then again, shouldn’t service be amazing any time you go to a restaurant? If you don’t like your job, find something else to earn a living instead of taking it out on your customers.
Seeing that pizza made me hungry!
I seem to have a tendency to do that to people. Haha!
What a wired server but the pizza and chicken wings look so good 😊
The food was good enough that I would give them another shot. Hopefully with a better server the next time.
Pizza is one of my favs and I like to take some home to enjoy later too! Maybe they will just bring an empty box to you next time, so you can box. Sorry for the less than stellar service. Glad food was so good!
I once worked at a restaurant where our policy was to box the food for the customer. It always annoyed me when customers wanted to box their own food, but I never let them know it.
Glad you got to exchange peppers! I love banana peppers on lots of things.
It all worked out but would have been so much more enjoyable if she didn’t attempt to make it look like she was going out of her way to do us some huge favor. The pizza was fantastic!
Pizza is always one of my favorite things to get at restaurants. I’ve been seeing more vegetable options on pizzas lately which is great!
I’ve seen some very interesting all veggie pizzas on menus lately. It’s such a versatile medium.
Pizza is one of my favorite foods! That picture looks amazing. (:
It was a fantastic pizza.
