On our trip to Jacksonville, Florida, we wanted to find a breakfast spot near our campsite. Unfortunately, there were not a lot of places to pick from. I was about to give up on something close when I came across Terry’s Grill.
The food reviews were good, but there seemed to be some concern about the political nature of the restaurant. I decided that it would be our best shot at a good breakfast without having to drive too far from the area where we planned to spend the day.
When we arrived at the busy eatery, it seemed that everyone had stopped eating to stare at us. We noticed an empty table in the corner of the room and sat down. Our server, Danielle, breezed by with plates of food, stating that she would be with us shortly. Chris saw menus nearby, so he grabbed two.
It took a few minutes for Danielle to get to us, but we could see she was doing everything she could to take care of the customers, so we weren’t concerned by the wait. The delay gave us a chance to decide on our breakfast choices, and we were ready to order when she brought our coffee.
Despite how busy the restaurant was, our food came out quickly. Chris ordered an egg with Country Fried Steak and a side of cheese grits. He was happy to see the egg was a perfect over-medium. The steak was crispy and flavorful, and the grits were rich and creamy. He created an incredible breakfast sandwich with his biscuit and part of the steak and egg, which he was kind enough to share.
I ordered one biscuit with gravy and an over-medium egg. Again, the egg was perfect. I enjoyed the luscious gravy, and the biscuit was tender and flaky.
Danielle did a fantastic job. She was friendly and efficient, giving us excellent service despite how busy it was in the restaurant. Regarding the political misgivings in the reviews, I only saw one indication of the owner’s political affiliation in a letter at the register explaining potential price increases.
The cost for two cups of coffee, two entrees, and a side was $27.41.
I miss living where having a side of grits is normal instead of a special request. The photo with the grits made me homesick and hungry 🙂
Haha! Your son seems to think I should cook grits for him every day. LOL
Both breakfasts look fantastic, especially the chicken fried steak. And the grits, And the perfectly done OM eggs. And… And… 🙂
I do love a perfectly cooked egg. It is amazing how many restaurant cooks can’t pull off good eggs.
wow! Really stunning breakfast. My mouth is watering because I like egg and chicken fried steak.
It was an amazing breakfast.
Yum this looks tasty. Thanks for sharing your review!
It was a great breakfast.
I love eating out breakfast! It is always interesting what different restaurants present as their “special.” LOVE breakfast and the creativity that brings with it!
It’s funny how simple breakfast seems, but how tricky it can be to pull off well.
