Our last food stop on vacation was The Mac House in Raleigh, NC.  I heard about the restaurant a few months ago and put it on my list of places to go if we were ever in the area.  As we had reversed our normal vacation route, we ended up in Raleigh at dinnertime so I was thrilled to check it out.

The Mac House is a counter service restaurant in a shopping center.  It was tricky to find, as the shopping center did not seem to have any road frontage.  We followed Google Maps to find it, but it seemed that we had to drive through the back of the shopping center and then all the way around it to actually find the restaurant.  It may have just been because of the direction we were coming from, but it seemed very confusing.  The employees were friendly and helpful.  They offer salads and a variety of grilled cheese but are best known for their extensive choice of mac & cheese dishes.

Chris ordered the Supreme Pizza Mac, pepperoni, marinara, Italian sausage and white cheese sauce with basil.  He chose Chicken Noodle Soup as his side.  The soup was flavorful with a rich broth.  The mac tasted just like a pizza.  I enjoyed the flavor but Chris felt it lacked creaminess.

I ordered the Bacon & Truffle Mac with wild mushrooms, bacon, white cheese sauce, parmesan, and truffle oil.  I paired it with a house salad with cucumber, carrot, tomatoes, bacon, and croutons.  The salad was delicious and I absolutely loved the mac.  It was rich, creamy, and utterly spectacular.

Cost for two orders of mac & cheese with sides and drinks $38.92.
