More Take-Out

Our second night in the Florida Keys, we ordered dinner from Tonio’s Seafood Shack & Tiki Bar on Summerland Key. They had a large patio with a live band. It made for a pleasant atmosphere for dinner, but the patio was too busy for our comfort. We decided to take our food to go.

We called our order in from the parking lot. While we waited, more and more people showed up for dinner, filling the already busy patio.
We were happy with our decision to order our food to-go. I went inside to pick up our order. I was impressed at how much food was coming out of the kitchen quickly with only three guys working. It was a thing of beauty.

The hostess bagged up our food carefully and handed it to me. I had to ask for the sauces that would typically accompany the food. We went back to our cottage and were delighted by what we found in the containers.

Delicious Food

We both ordered Tonio’s Broiled Combo with two shrimp, two scallops, a Mahi filet, a crab cake, and coleslaw. We ordered mashed potatoes for our side.

The perfectly cooked seafood was delicious. The large shrimp and scallops were tender and seasoned beautifully. I am not usually a big fan of crab cakes as I typically feel they have too much breading and filler. Tonio’s crab cakes were packed full of crab pieces with just enough breading to keep them together.

They cooked the Mahi to the perfect sweet spot between firm and flaky. It was spectacular. Nicely sized portions allowed us to finish the meal satisfied, without feeling stuffed.

The mashed potatoes seemed generic when compared with the seafood. They were runnier than I usually like and needed some seasoning, but I am willing to forgive the less than perfect potatoes with the flawlessness of the seafood.

Cost for two entrees $62.25.
