I saw an article on Facebook touting Mac’s Country Store as the best fried chicken in Virginia so, of course, we had to check it out. It is a little off the beaten path, but if you are near Lovingston, it is worth a stop.
This is a gas station on the side of the road that also serves fried chicken and burgers in the store. There are a few tables in the back of the store so you can eat there if you like.
The chicken was very moist and flavorful. It was not the typical heavy breading that you find in most places. Instead, it was lightly breaded and fried to perfection. It reminded me of the chicken I had at family reunions as a child.
Cost of a 2-piece (breast and thigh) with potato wedges and dinner roll $3.70
That sounds delicious right about now! Thanks for sharing your review!
It was just like what I used to eat at family reunions when I was a kid.
That sounds very reasonably priced and also sounds delicious.
I couldn’t believe how cheap it was and so good.
Sometimes those gas-station restaurants have the best, hidden finds!
Yes they do!
Omg, so funny. There is a space that a local family rents in a gas station by my work. They make the crispiest most yummy fried chicken. I just love finding these little gems!
Some of the best food is found in those little out of the way spots.
Sometimes these little places have the best food! Traveling through Europe, we have found some extraordinary food in gas stations.
I think it’s just a matter of having an open mind and a willingness to try something new.
I love little spots like this! Looks awesome!
I was unsure when we first got there because it was much more gas station than restaurant. It turned out that they had a nice seating area in the back of the store to enjoy your food.
Gosh that sounds soooo good! Thanks for sharing!
It was definitely worth the side trip.
Wow! This looks really good!
This looks so good!! And affordable! A great find for sure 😄
It was definitely a great find.
Love it! Great food in a gas station, for well under 5 bucks. Life is good!
I love good food for a bargain.
Funny how the best food can be in the most unexpected places! Our best Indian food in the area is at a truck stop!
We found a great omelet at a truck stop once. Wow, was I surprised!
