While researching places to eat lunch in Jacksonville, Florida, I came upon a website featuring new restaurants in the area. As I scanned through the article, Randeez Nutz Express caught my attention. Their specialty is boiled peanuts, one of Chris’s favorites. While the name amused me, the tagline “Get Our Nutz In Your Mouth” made it clear we had to go there for lunch.
The restaurant is in the corner of a shopping center, with grand opening signs still flying outside. It was quiet when we arrived. The décor was pleasant with positive messages on the walls. They even provided feminine products at no cost in the restroom, which I thought was a nice touch.
Our server was friendly and helpful, even checking on the answer instead of guessing when she didn’t know the answer to our questions.
After looking over the menu, I decided to order a cup of gumbo with rice. The gumbo was delicious, flavorful with the perfect heat. It was not an in-your-face type of heat, but instead, the warm spiciness grew on my tongue as I ate.
Chris ordered Blackened Fish with red beans and rice. The beautifully cooked fish was flaky with just enough blackening seasoning. The red beans and rice were fantastic and expertly cooked as well. I loved the flavor of the spicy aioli that came with the fish.
The portions were generous, giving us plenty to eat, but we still wanted to taste the boiled peanuts. Of the seven flavors available, Chris picked Smoked Turkey Collard Greens. We planned to snack on the nuts while we played disc golf.
Unfortunately, we never had the opportunity to taste them. We were running out of daylight, so we rushed through our game. With turkey as one of the ingredients, we decided not to risk eating them without proper storage in a cooler.
We would happily return to Randeez Nutz Express again for the delicious food and excellent service. I think we’ll start with the boiled peanuts as an appetizer the next time.
The cost for a soda, a beer, two entrees, and boiled peanuts with a credit card fee was $42.37.
Bummer about the nuts. You’ll just have to go back! 🙂 Chris’ fish looks fantastic! I love blackened fish and so few places get it right out here.
They did a great job on the fish cook.
I would totally get the Vegetarian Tacos minus the cheese. Tacos & Fajitas are such great staples at restaurants to easily veganize.
The food we had was fantastic. I can’t imagine they would drop the ball on the tacos.
This all looked very delicious. You had me with the picture of the fish. Yummy. Also, it was a very affordable meal for two.
They did a great job on the food. Great flavors.
I have never tried boiled peanuts, I didn’t even know they came in a variety of flavors. Cool.
They are fantastic!
I haven’t tried boiled peanuts, that is a unique menu item I would like to try!
Boiled peanuts are delicious.
This looks delicious. I like peanuts
The food was so good.
